Changes to French Work Permit Proposed in Draft Law
Wednesday, October 1, 2014

A draft law proposing changes to immigration permit categories for third countries nationals working and residing in France has been published.  Parliament will debate the proposed law over the next several months.  Among the changes proposed is the elimination of work permits for short term assignments.  In addition, the existing scheme for work permits would be re-categorized under sub-categories.  These sub-categories would include work permit categories for individuals who hold at least a master’s degree or higher from French universities, Entrepreneurs seeking to create business in France, Inter-Company transfer options, and options for internationally renowned foreigners.  The draft law also proposes the option of renewing permits for up to four years.  The proposed law has yet to be passed and new developments are anticipated as Parliament debates the proposal.
