James J. Scott, member of the Real Estate, Land Use and Development Practice Area, has diverse experience in commercial real estate development and shares the lead role in the firm's Leasing Practice Area. Formerly the Senior Counsel at Home Depot, Mr. Scott has experience in complex commercial real estate development projects throughout many areas of the United States, China and Canada. He focuses his practice in leasing, transactional, construction, regulatory, joint venture formation, financing, and environmental aspects of development projects, as well as in distressed assets and work-out matters. He has worked closely with corporate officers regarding deal risk assessment and resolution. As Senior Counsel for Home Depot, he directed the legal aspects of over three hundred development projects and has also advised commercial real estate investment fund managers on structuring and due diligence aspects of project investments.
Mr. Scott brings with him an extensive national, regional and international presence in real estate transactions and development projects. Mr. Scott has a network of contacts in China and Canada with whom he has worked on sophisticated real estate transactions. He has managed real estate aspects of international merger and acquisition transactions and has negotiated purchase agreements in both China and Canada. Mr. Scott has also been responsible for all legal aspects of management, acquisition, development and maintenance of over 500 Home Depot stores and retail centers.
