Neal R. Roach Jr.

Professional Biography

Neal focuses his practice in the areas of business transactions (particularly intellectual property licensing transactions), corporate compliance and securities law compliance, and healthcare and life sciences law. He has represented numerous startup and high-growth companies on a broad range of matters, including advice on corporate structure and financing; intellectual property protection, management and licensing; contracts; FDA issues; sales and marketing regulation; healthcare compliance; reimbursement; strategic partnership agreements; and consulting agreements. In addition, Neal frequently advises physicians, institutional clients and life sciences companies regarding the application of the Anti-kickback and Stark laws, the development and implementation of corporate compliance plans, and HIPAA and state patient privacy laws.

Neal also advises clients across a wide range of industries with respect to the development and implementation of corporate compliance programs, including compliance strategy, codes of conduct, risk assessments, training and reporting.

Prior to joining the firm, Neal spent fourteen years with Roche Diagnostics, which is part of the Roche Group, one of the world’s leading innovation-driven healthcare groups, and the world leader in in-vitro diagnostics. During his tenure at Roche, Neal held several legal and business development positions. He served as Head of Global Licensing, heading a transnational organization with responsibility for the global intellectual property asset management strategy of Roche Diagnostics. He also served as Vice President of Ethics and Compliance, with overall responsibility for the company’s corporate compliance program, and as Associate General Counsel.

Neal served as law clerk to Judge Gilbert S. Merritt of the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit. He received his law degree from Yale Law School in 1987, where he was managing editor of the Yale Law & Policy Review. Neal received his undergraduate degree, magna cum laude, from Carson-Newman College in 1984. He is a member of the first group of professionals to earn the designation of Certified Licensing Professional™, a program of the Licensing Executives Society that recognizes intellectual property professionals who have demonstrated dedication to higher standards of practice within the licensing industry. He is recognized by Best Lawyers in America® as the 2017 "Lawyer of the Year" for corporate governance law in Indianapolis.
