Jason Stephenson is a partner in the Governmental Services Department in Barnes & Thornburg LLP’s Indianapolis, Indiana office.
Mr. Stephenson concentrates his practice in energy, water and wastewater utilities. He has represented a wide range of utilities in rate cases, complaints, financings, investigations, rulemakings and acquisitions before the Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission; litigated utility issues before Indiana trial courts; and appeals of utility matters before the Indiana Court of Appeals. Mr. Stephenson also routinely handles transactional utilities matters, including the negotiation of wholesale power and gas contracts, customer specific agreements, financial derivatives and similar agreements. Mr. Stephenson has assisted municipalities in negotiating customer agreements for significant customers, resolving utility contract disputes and developing rates to fairly fund operations.
Mr. Stephenson has served as the Chair Elect and Chair of the Indiana State Bar Association’s Utility Law Section Gas Division. He also serves on the board of the Emergent Leadership Institute, an Indianapolis non-profit working to engage young adults in their community through volunteer work. Mr. Stephenson graduated from Taylor University in 1996 and received his law degree from Indiana University School of Law – Indianapolis in 1999. While in law school, he participated in the intramural moot court competition, joined the Order of the Barristers and, with a partner, won a final argument in the competition before three justices of the Indiana Supreme Court.
