Stephen G. Schweller is a Partner in the Litigation Department. Steve, a Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU), focuses his practice on insurance-related issues and disputes. He has represented insurance carriers in significant coverage litigation in state and federal trial and appellate courts around the country as well as in mediations and arbitrations. Steve has handled cases for carriers, agents, and third-party administrators, including bad faith cases, adversary proceedings in bankruptcy, collections matters, and declaratory judgment actions concerning premium charges, reserving practices, claims handling, and other policy-related issues. Additionally, he has worked on statutory liquidations of insurance companies, including serving as principal outside counsel to the Superintendent of Insurance as liquidator of a failed property and casualty insurance company. Steve also provides "preventive lawyering" in the form of coverage opinions and other pre-litigation advice. Steve's practice also extends to non-insurance commercial litigation and general business disputes, involving negligence, fraud and/or breach of contract claims.
