The Changing Regulatory Landscape on Cybersecurity in China

Webinar, Hosted By Covington & Burling LLP

Thursday, November 3, 2016 - 5:30 AM

This webinar will examine China’s draft Cybersecurity Law, which may be promulgated as early as the end of this year and is expected to have wide-ranging implications for multinationals doing business in China or seeking to access its vast market.

Designed to safeguard China’s “cyberspace sovereignty and national security,” the draft law seeks to introduce new, high-priority mandates such as the protection of “critical information infrastructure” (i.e., basic information networks used to deliver services in critical industries) and consolidate, under the cybersecurity umbrella, existing requirements in areas such as data localization, cross-border data transfer, cybersecurity risk assessments, and national security reviews. Greater powers are expected to be granted to relevant government agencies, allowing them to regulate more online activities under the new law.

Led by a panel of experienced professionals from Covington’s Beijing and Washington offices, this webinar will offer an overview of key elements of new or retooled regulatory schemes introduced by the draft law, as well as key government enforcers and their priorities.
