CMS Announces Physician Quality Reporting Bonus Payments
(November 13, 2009) There is a reward for successfully reporting quality-related data to Medicare under the 2008 Physician Quality Reporting Initiative (PRQI). CMS has paid out over $92 million in incentives for 2008. CMS states that the PRQI program demonstrates that Medicare can align payment with quality incentives. The incentives averaged about $1,000 for individual professionals, with the largest payment to an eligible professional totaling over $98,000. Health practices with participating eligible professionals in Florida and Illinois received the highest incentive payments for 2008, with Florida professional receiving a total of over $7.5 million and Illinois professional receiving a total of over $6 million.
