November is Alzheimer’s Awareness Month

November is Alzheimer’s Awareness Month. There are more than 5 million Americans who have been diagnosed Alzheimer’s. Approximately 40% of people over age 65 experience some form of memory loss and symptoms become progressively more severe as age increases. There is currently no cure for Alzheimer’s, the most common cause of dementia, but research is showing that diet, exercise, mental activities and social interactions can help increase brain health.

Common signs of dementia include: memory lossmisplacing things, unable to retrace steps, difficulty planning, taking longer to solve problems, experiencing changes in mood or personality, or becoming confused as to where one is or as to time and date.

Noviembre es el mes de concientización sobre la enfermedad de Alzheimer. Hay más de 5 millones americanos que han sido diagnosticados con Alzheimer. Aproximadamente el 40% de personas mayores de 65 años sufren alguna forma de pérdida de la memoria y los síntomas progresivamente se ponen más graves mientras uno envejece. Actualmente no existe cura para el Alzheimer, la causa más común de demencia, pero investigaciones científica están mostrando que dieta, ejercicio, actividades mentales e interacciones sociales pueden ayudar a aumentar la salud del cerebro.
