Yet More Senate Commerce Committee Robocall Focus
Friday, April 5, 2019

In the aftermath of approval of the TRACED Act, S. 151, the US Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation’s focus on robocall issues has not abated. The Committee’s Subcommittee on Communications, Technology, Innovation and the Internet will hold a hearing next week on April 11 entitled “Illegal Robocalls: Calling All To Stop The Scourge.” Senator John Thune (R-SD), a co-author of S.151, chairs the Subcommittee.

The hearing reportedly will examine the Federal Communications Commission’s February report on its efforts to curb the robocall problem and current Congressional actions to provide consumers relief from illegal robocalls.

Current announced witnesses are Nebraska Attorney General Doug Peterson, Kevin Rupy, a partner at Wiley Rein in Washington DC who will testify on behalf of US Telecom – the Broadband Association, and National Consumer Law Center, counsel Margot Saunders. The hearing is scheduled to begin at 10:00 a.m. and can be viewed at www.commerce.senate.gov.
