Christopher Schreiber is a Shareholder in the Banking, Bankruptcy, Business Restructuring & Real Estate Practice Group. His practice is primarily focused on three distinct yet often intertwined areas of the law.

Commercial Litigation and Lender Representation

  • Workouts: Loan restructuring; discounted payoff agreements; deeds in lieu of foreclosure

  • Commercial foreclosure: Recent significant cases include the foreclosure of unfinished condominium developments, commercial multi-tenant mixed use buildings, and hotels

  • Bankruptcy: Representation of secured creditors in business reorganizations and individual real estate restructuring cases under Chapter 11; enforcing and protecting liens in business equipment (in particular heavy machinery) in Chapters 11, 12, and 13; nondischargeability litigation

  • Commercial debt collection and guarantor litigation

Real Estate

  • Representing lenders and third party purchasers relative to the acquisition (through foreclosure, deed in lieu of foreclosure, or otherwise) and management of distressed properties, REO, and the like

  • Counseling lenders, businesses, and individuals through the turbulent real estate market on all aspects of buying or selling commercial property

Construction Lien & Collection

  • Negotiation and litigation of invoice disputes covering everything from home remodeling projects to commercial mixed use developments

  • Filing and enforcing construction liens under Chapter 779 of the Wisconsin Statutes

  • Successful litigation of a trade contractor’s construction lien priority over a mortgage holder after the collapse of a local hotel development

  • Theft by contractor litigation
