Elizabeth Graham

Elizabeth Graham has a wealth of experience advising on pension scheme matters and the complexities of pensions law. She advises both employers and trustees on all types of pensions law, including scheme design, deficit funding issues, risk management, investment issues and scheme governance. She is also experienced in advising clients in both the private and public sectors, including clients in the charity and housing sectors.

Elizabeth is “highly regarded” according to The Legal 500, and a client is quoted in Chambers2016 as saying that she possesses “a brain the size of a planet”.


  • Advising on a substantial buy-in of pensioner liabilities in relation to a defined benefit scheme.

  • Acting for a seller on the pensions aspects of a £75 million corporate sale, which resulted in the payment of an employer debt.

  • Advising on various mergers of defined benefit pension schemes.

  • Redrafting trust documentation for a £250 million final salary scheme.

  • Advising in relation to both defined contribution and defined benefit master trusts.

  • Advising on the closure of various defined benefit schemes to ongoing accrual in relation to both private and public sector schemes. Successfully challenging a public sector scheme on its refusal to allow overseas pensions transfers.

  • Handling a number of disputes involving small self-administered schemes and various Pensions Ombudsman complaints.
