Gautam Gowrisankaran

Gautam Gowrisankaran is an expert on mergers and acquisitions and the economics of industrial organization. He has analyzed the competitive effects of mergers as an expert witness and/or consultant in several industries, including healthcare, transportation, high-technology products, energy markets, payment services, and durable consumer goods. Professor Gowrisankaran has testified in competition matters before the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), U.S. district courts, state courts, and internationally. He submitted testimony to the FTC in USA v. Cabell Huntington Hospital Inc. and St. Mary’s Medical Center Inc.

Professor Gowrisankaran conducts both theoretical and empirical research in industrial organization and competition. A particular focus of his research is healthcare. The markets he has analyzed include hospitals, accountable care organizations (ACOs), and health insurance.

Professor Gowrisankaran is recognized by Who's Who Legal as a leading competition economist. He serves on the editorial boards of several academic journals, including the American Economic Review and the RAND Journal of Economics. He is also a research associate at the National Bureau of Economic Research.
