Martha’s practice focuses on advising the Monitor of the National Mortgage Settlement (NMS), Joe Smith, regarding interpretation and implementation of the NMS Consent Judgment, whose parties include seven major mortgage servicers (including the four largest banking organizations in the United States), the United States Government and 49 states. Martha’s NMS work requires a thorough knowledge of bankruptcy issues and various consumer and banking regulations, particularly those promulgated by the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau,  that may present a conflict with Servicers’ adherence to the NMS Servicing Standards. In addition, Martha’s frequent interaction with counsel for the various NMS parties utilize the negotiating skills she acquired during her time in the private sector.
