Navid Fanaeian is an associate with Foley & Lardner LLP. He is a member of the firm’s Electronics Practice. Navid works with scientists, engineers, and researchers at technology companies and academic institutions to secure and enforce patents, to avoid patents, and to challenge or defend against enforcement of patents as needed. He works with technologies in very diverse fields, including inventions at the intersection of computing and medicine.
Navid’s practice includes a focus on patent prosecution and client counseling, encompassing strategic development and management of domestic and foreign patent portfolios, conducting competitive patent assessments, and providing product clearance, patentability, and validity analyses. He has drafted and prosecuted patent applications in such areas as healthcare and financial software, medical treatment devices and implants, imaging, bioinformatics, augmented reality, cybersecurity, processor and memory design, optics, semiconductors, RF technologies, artificial intelligence and machine learning, Internet of Things (IoT), chemical and materials processing, and “green” technologies.
Navid’s background is a unique combination of the life sciences (cell and molecular biology, microbiology and immunology, physiology, and pharmacology) and electrical engineering, and makes him peculiarly well suited to working at the intersection of technology and healthcare, in particular, artificial intelligence based solutions relating to such areas as drug discovery and treatment planning and delivery. He has worked extensively with researchers pursuing a better understanding of biological processes through advanced medical devices and software analytic techniques. Navid has experience with technologies that target cellular processes and use imaging in noninvasive tests and treatments in oncology and other areas, and that apply machine-learning techniques to biomedical research such as genomics. Navid enjoys combining his biomedical background with his engineering experience to better serve clients who are at the forefront of such cross-disciplinary research and development.
