O'Malley M. Miller

O’Malley is widely known and respected nationally for his collaborative approach, working among institutional investors, developers, bankers, brokers, title insurance companies, rating agencies, and financial consultants. In addition to representing regional, national, and international investors, developers, and lenders in connection with large-scale real estate projects in California and throughout the United States—including office buildings, multifamily projects, shopping centers, hotels, and planned communities—O’Malley has carved a particular niche representing business enterprises and institutions in developing their closely-held real property assets.

A Dealmaker

O’Malley has seen an exceptional number of real estate development deals over his forty-some years in practice – including a 120-acre corporate headquarters in Thousand Oaks, the 1,600-acre Playa Vista project in West Los Angeles, the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Los Angeles’ Cathedral, the Walt Disney Concert Hall, and Stanford University’s master plan, to name a few. With today’s competitive market, he is advising clients in structuring more strategic, nuanced deals.

O'Malley brings a wealth of market experience and insight to client projects and business endeavors. From the efficient and appropriate allocation of risk to land use and environmental regulatory negotiations and transactions, his savvy counsel has earned successful outcomes and valued long-term client relationships. During his career he has advised clients through real estate booms as well as during more challenging times, partnering with them to navigate a path forward through uncertainty. As a trusted advisor, clients come to O'Malley when their strategies change and entire real estate portfolios or individual assets need to be analyzed for potential risk exposure and new opportunities need to be identified.

A benefit of having seen numerous deals with analogous assets, his transferred experience offers his non-real estate developer clients both the legal and practical advice needed to accomplish their real estate objectives. When The Music Center of Los Angeles embarked on the development of the Walt Disney Concert Hall, they engaged O’Malley to represent it on all aspects of the project from hiring the architect and contractor to handling the lease revenue bond financing for the 2,000 car garage that sits below it.

Global Reach. Local Counsel.

A member of the American College of Real Estate Lawyers, O’Malley has access to high-quality local counsel in all 50 states and Puerto Rico. Whether headquartered in Japan, Korea, Hong Kong, Germany, or New York City, his clients receive the benefit of his on-the-ground relationships—in Indianapolis, Chicago, Las Vegas, Miami, and beyond—ensuring that agreements are enforceable under state and local laws and that deals and risks are market-appropriate.
