Dr. R. Frederic (Ric) Henschel is a partner and intellectual property lawyer with Foley & Lardner LLP. His experience includes technologies such as biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, polymers, nanotechnology, cosmetics, and business methods. He is a member of the Chemical, Biotechnology & Pharmaceutical and Intellectual Property Litigation Practices and the Patent Office Trials Group. He previously served as a board member of the Personalized Medicine Business Summit, and as Foley’s co-chair of the Life Sciences Industry Team, and vice chair of the formerly named Chemical & Pharmaceutical Practice.

Dr. Henschel's practice focuses on counseling clients in patent matters, representing clients before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), litigation, and licensing. Specifically, his practice includes validity and freedom-to-operate opinions; due diligence investigations; negotiating and interpreting patent licenses; procuring domestic and foreign patents; post-grant reexamination and reissue proceedings; and interferences. His practice also includes litigation in federal and state trial courts and appeals before the USPTO Patent Trials and Appeals Board and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit.
