Sarah E. Hanneman

Sarah Hanneman is a member of the Government Law Group where she focuses her practice on school law and labor and employment issues. Prior to joining von Briesen, Sarah worked for Milwaukee Public Schools as an Employment Relations Specialist where she managed the District’s employee discipline process, employee grievances, and advised District administration on other employment relations matters. Sarah has significant experience in preparing and representing district administration for employee disciplinary hearings, deciding employee grievances, as well as serving in the capacity of the district’s representative before impartial hearing officers as part of the grievance process. Sarah frequently presented to district administrators on topics such as employee absenteeism, reasonable suspicion drug/alcohol testing protocols, mandatory reporting, searches in the workplace, employee discipline, performance improvement plans, and teacher contract matters.

Sarah has experience in special education, including analyzing and responding to IDEA complaints and ensuring procedural compliance with the IDEA and state law. She has experience with parent custody and placement matters, including proceedings involving guardians ad litem. Sarah has also completed mediation training through the Federal Mediation & Conciliation Service and has experience as a mediator in employment disputes.

Sarah is a member of the State Bar of Wisconsin and the Milwaukee Bar Association.
