Medical Device IPR at the PTAB, CAFC, and the Supreme Court

Please join us on January 31, 2018 for Medical Device IPR at the PTAB, CAFC, and the Supreme Court, the next installment of our monthly series of webinars directed to issues and developments in the law that affect the medical device industry. These free and informative presentations by Covington lawyers will be held once a month at 8 am PT/11 am ET/3 pm GMT. Each webinar will be approximately one hour in length.

Increasingly, companies are exploring litigation options at the Patent & Trademark Office (PTO) as a faster and less expensive alternative to federal court resolution. Our presenters will discuss developments at the PTO, CAFC], and Supreme Court that every patent holder or potential target thereof needs to know.

The webinar will be led by Peter Chen and Scott Kamholz, both former Administrative Patent Judges (APJ) at the U.S. Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB).

  • Peter Chen is a Partner in Covington's Patent Litigation and Advisory practice whose practice specializes in intellectual property litigation, with particular focus on America Invents Act trials before the PTAB. From 2015-2017, Mr. Chen was a Lead APJ and as a member of PTAB’s management team. He assisted three successive Chief Judges in formulating and executing PTAB policy involving AIA trial procedures and Board operations.
  • Scott Kamholz is Of Counsel in Covington's Patent Litigation and Advisory practice whose practice combines his experience as an APJ with his background in medicine, biophysics, and engineering to advise clients in the life sciences sector on a variety of complex patent litigation matters and PTAB proceedings.
