Iowa

Iowa is a state located in the Midwest, and is bordered by the Mississippi River, Missouri River, and Big Sioux River. It was the 29th State admitted to the Union on December 28, 1846. Iowa is in the Eighth District Circuit Court of Appeals in the United States.

For much of its history, Iowa has been an agricultural based community, and its economy has been driven as such. It was in the center of the Corn Belt region, where climates and soil-conditions, made it ideal for growing and cultivating crops. During the latter half of the 20th Century, Iowa’s economy took a turn and diversified their economy by incorporating manufacturing, IT, biotechnology, financial services, and ‘green energy’ production to the mix. Today the state relies heavily on these industries to fund its economy.

Iowa laws and statutes comprise the Code of Iowa, updated by the Iowa Legislative Service Bureau, with a new edition published in odd-numbered years and a supplement published in even-numbered years.  The Governor of Iowa is the head of the Executive branch of government, and the legislature is

The state court system in Iowa consists of the Iowa Supreme Court, the Iowa Court of Appeals, and Eight District courts.  The Iowa Supreme Court is head of the state’s judicial branch, and consists of a Chief Justice and six associate justices.  The Court of Appeals is the intermediate court in the state, and hears appeals from the District Courts.   The Iowa District courts have original jurisdiction across the state in a variety of matters, including, civil cases with any amount in controversy; felony criminal cases, domestic relations, family law, and cases involving minors cases (including adoption, dependency, juvenile delinquency, and probate cases.)
