Kentucky Couple Takes Advantage of Resources Concerning Startup Business
Tuesday, June 17, 2014

A couple opened up a yogurt shop and for their efforts was presented the 2014 Northeast Kentucky Small Business Award for New Business of the Year. There were a number of issues that needed to be researched in preparations of this opening. One of the owners spoke of how advice was lacking concerning dealing with roadblocks encountered along the way. Through guidance of Kentucky's Innovation Center network the couple was eventually able to open up their business.

The husband's work ethic apparently came from helping his grandparents sell corn door-to-door when he was a child. The proceeds of the sales would be used towards vacations at state parks in Kentucky. He states this taught him to see the rewards that come about by being one's boss and making one's own way.

Like many other businesses that are being formed, this particular startup has benefitted from one of the many resources that the state of Kentucky can provide. This particular startup has taken advantage of what is called a "cooperative working space and startup incubator" in Ashland. These cooperative working spaces provide benefits for startup businesses that may be difficult to locate.

Small businesses require all of the help that they can get. Not only is the starting up of a new business a sometimes difficult task, a startup business is generally a labor of love for which individuals devote a great part of their lives. As in the instance above, a husband and wife have invested in the new business together. We recommend seeking the advice of professionals such as experienced business attorneys in order that costly mistakes are not made.
