Caitlin O’Connell focuses her practice on patent litigation and client counseling in the areas of biotechnology and pharmaceuticals, with particular emphasis on Abbreviated New Drug Application (ANDA) cases.

Caitlin is involved in all phases of litigation, including pre-litigation analysis, claim construction, fact discovery, expert discovery, and trial. Caitlin’s litigation experience includes drafting pleadings, preparing fact and corporate witnesses for depositions, coordinating discovery, working with experts to develop infringement and validity positions, preparing expert witnesses for depositions, and handling day-to-day litigation activities.

While in law school, Caitlin worked as a summer associate at Finnegan, assisting in litigation matters before federal district courts. She also worked as an intern analyzing supplemental examination cases and decisions in the Patent Experience Externship Program at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).

While at Virginia Tech, Caitlin conducted undergraduate research studying molecular pathways in plants, with particular focus on inositol signaling molecules. She also worked as a lab assistant for the Partnership for Research and Education in Plants, a College of Science student outreach initiative.
