EPA TechDirect Reports Availability of NanoRem Toolbox
Tuesday, May 2, 2017

The May 1, 2017, issue of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) TechDirect includes an item on the availability of the Taking Nanotechnological Remediation Processes from Lab Scale to End User Applications for the Restoration of a Clean Environment (NanoRem) Toolbox.  NanoRem is a research project funded through the European Commission’s Seventh Framework Program for Research and Technological Development. EPA describes the NanoRem Toolbox as the primary gateway to the NanoRem Project’s results.  EPA states that the Toolbox focuses on the needs of decision makers, consultants, and site owners.  It provides the respective output of NanoRem in three levels:  an entry level showing the project bulletins as high level information in a condensed and concise way; more detailed information on nanoparticles and tools described as “Nanoparticles and Tools”; and other dissemination products and selected project deliverables as “Supporting Information.”  The April 1, 2017, issue of TechDirect reported on the availability of 12 NanoRem Bulletins that were created to transfer the knowledge developed within NanoRem to end-users:

  • NanoRem Bulletin 1 — Nanotechnology for Contaminated Land Remediation — Possibilities and Future Trends Resulting from the NanoRem Project;

  • NanoRem Bulletin 2 — Appropriate Use of Nanoremediation in Contaminated Land Management;

  • NanoRem Bulletin 3 — Generalised Guideline for Application of Nanoremediation;

  • NanoRem Bulletin 4 — A Guide to Nanoparticles for the Remediation of Contaminated Sites;

  • NanoRem Bulletin 5 — Development and Application of Analytical Methods for Monitoring Nanoparticles in Remediation;

  • NanoRem Bulletin 6 — Forecasting Nanoparticle Transport in Support of In Situ Groundwater Remediation;

  • NanoRem Bulletin 7 — NanoRem Pilot Site — Spolchemie I, Czech Republic: Nanoscale Zero-Valent Iron Remediation of Chlorinated Hydrocarbons;

  • NanoRem Bulletin 8 — NanoRem Pilot Site — Spolchemie II, Czech Republic: Remediation of BTEX Compounds Using Nano-Goethite;

  • NanoRem Bulletin 9 — NanoRem Pilot Site — Solvay, Switzerland: Nanoscale Zero-Valent Iron Remediation of Chlorinated Solvents;

  • NanoRem Bulletin 10 — NanoRem Pilot Site — Balassagyarmat, Hungary: In Situ Groundwater Remediation Using Carbo-Iron® Nanoparticles;

  • NanoRem Bulletin 11 — NanoRem Pilot Site — Neot Hovav, Israel: Transport of Iron Nanoparticles in Fractured Chalk; and

  • NanoRem Bulletin 12 — NanoRem Pilot Site — Nitrastur, Spain: Remediation of Arsenic in Groundwater Using Nanoscale Zero-Valent Iron.
