Israel is located in the Middle East, and lies on the southeastern shore of the Mediterranean Sea, and northern shore of the Red Sea. The Palestinian territories, Jordan, Syria, Egypt, and Lebanon border the country. With its economy center falling in Tel Aviv, and government sitting in its capital of Jerusalem, Israel is an extremely diversified population in a small land-area.

Under the country’s basic laws, it considers itself a Jewish and Democratic State, with a representative democracy, a parliamentary system, proportional representation, and universal suffrage. The Knesset is the Legislature in the country while the Prime Minister serves as the head of the government. Israel has the 34th largest economy based on nominal GDP worldwide, benefiting from a highly skilled workforce and excellent educational system. It has one of the world’s highest percentage of citizens holding a tertiary degree, and the country has the highest standard of living credentials in the Middle East. In 2018, the estimated population of just over 8.8 million inhabitants, makes it the 98th largest country based on population.

Israel is comprised of four major metropolitan areas which include: Gush Dan, the Jerusalem Metro area, Haifa Metro area, and the Beersheba Metro area. Jerusalem is the largest metro area by population with over 880,000 inhabitants. Hebrew and Arabic are the official languages of the country. As a geographic location which is inhabited by immigrants, other prominent languages in the country include Russian, French, and English. As the country makes a major portion of the Holy Land, it is a region of significant religious prominence to all religions, including Judaism, Christianity, Islam, Druze and Bahá'í Faith.

The country’s legal system is comprised of three-tier court system. It has magistrate courts throughout a majority of the country, with district courts, and courts of first instance; the Supreme Court is the highest tier-system in the country. The legal system combines three legal traditions including English Law, Jewish Law, and civil law. Israel maintains foreign relations with 158 countries worldwide, and 107 diplomatic missions.

Considered the most advanced country in the Middle East, Israel has an excellent university system and extremely educated workforce. The agriculture and industrial sectors are prime economic-drivers, and food production is also a primary source of the country’s economic prowess. Tourism also draws in a great deal towards the country’s GDP annually. Equipment, software, fuels, grains, consumer goods, are among the leading exports Israel produces.
