Professional Biography

Lindsay Barnes represents clients in complex commercial litigation and arbitration concerning a broad range of issues, including contract disputes, business torts, theft of trade secrets, dealer terminations and antitrust claims. Lindsay also provides counseling regarding supplier-distributor relationships, beer franchise laws and alcoholic beverage control regulations.

Lindsay is dedicated to providing counsel pro bono and has successfully represented clients in D.C. Superior Court and U.S. District Court. For five years, he represented a torture victim from Somalia in his suit against a former high-ranking Somali National Army officer. In 2019, a jury in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia returned a unanimous verdict for the victim and a $500,000 award.

A graduate of Dartmouth College, Lindsay earned his J.D. from the University of Maryland School of Law, where he served as Notes & Comments Editor for the Journal of Business & Technology Law. During law school, he worked as a law clerk for the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Maryland under then-U.S. Attorney Rod Rosenstein.

Following law school, Lindsay served as a clerk for Maryland Circuit Court Judge Pamela J. White of the Circuit Court for Baltimore City and United States District Court Judge Ronald L. Buckwalter of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania. He is admitted in Virginia, Maryland and the District of Columbia.
