Michael focuses his practice on a broad range of energy- and commodity-related areas, including issues related to compliance with federal rules and regulations governing the trading, ownership and transportation of energy commodities.
Specifically, Michael advises clients on Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) and Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) compliance issues and represents clients in enforcement matters and in FERC rate proceedings and FERC, CFTC, and FTC general rulemakings. Michael has conducted internal compliance reviews and training, helped structure natural gas supply arrangements to comply with FERC regulations, represented clients during FERC and CFTC investigations, and conducted due diligence and advised clients regarding regulatory implications related to large acquisitions of natural gas portfolios. He also advises clients regarding the CFTC’s regulation of non-energy commodities, including agricultural commodities, and regarding the U.S. Federal Trade Commission’s petroleum market manipulation regulations.
