City of Springfield, Missouri Reaches Settlement to Strike Down E-Verify Requirement
Wednesday, October 10, 2012

On September 20, the City of Springfield, Missouri settled a lawsuit with four local companies who challenged the city’s ordinance requiring the use of E-Verify, contending that the measure violated the Constitution and state and federal law. The settlement removes the E-Verify requirement and requires the city to pay the companies more than $45,000 in legal fees. The Springfield City Council is now expected to adopt a new ordinance that will update city laws to comply with the judgment.
