Overview of Cases

Global:

  • As of March 13, 2020, the WHO has reported 132,758 confirmed cases of COVID-19 globally, with 7,499 new cases since the previous report on March 12. There have been 4,955 deaths, with 342 new deaths since the previous report.

  • Since the last report on March 12, 5 new countries/territories/areas reported cases – Jersey, Réunion, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Cuba and Guyana.

Domestic:

  • As of March 13, 2020, the CDC has counted COVID-19 cases across 47 U.S. states, including the District of Columbia (with 4 new states reporting infections since the last update on March 12): Arizona, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, District of Columbia, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Vermont, Virginia, Washington, Wisconsin, Wyoming.

  • Data includes both confirmed and presumptive positive cases reported to CDC or tested at CDC since January 21, 2020. Totals do not include individuals who returned to the U.S. via State Department-charted flights. Numbers in parenthesis represent the increase in cases since the previous day’s report.

    • Total cases: 1,629 (+414)

    • Total deaths: 41 (+5)

Travel Alerts

The CDC issues travel notices based on an assessment of the potential risks associated with traveling to a particular region.  The three levels of notices are as follows:

  • Level 3 Travel Health Notice: Widespread sustained (ongoing) transmission and restrictions on entry to the United States

    • CDC recommends that travelers avoid all nonessential travel to the following destinations. Entry of foreign nationals from these destinations has been suspended:

      • China

      • Iran

      • Most of Europe – CDC recommends that travelers avoid all nonessential travel to specified countries in Europe. See the list of the 29 countries.

  • Level 3 Travel Health Notice: Sustained (ongoing) community transmission

    • CDC recommends that travelers avoid all nonessential travel to the following destinations:

      • South Korea

  • Level 2 Travel Health Notice: Sustained (ongoing) community transmission

    • CDC recommends that older adults or those who have chronic medical conditions consider postponing travel to the following destinations:

      • Global Outbreak Notice – The CDC indicates that sustained community spread of the virus is occurring globally. High-risk travelers should consider postponing nonessential travel. See the notice and additional guidance.

  • Level 1 Travel Health Notice: Limited community transmission

    • Travelers should practice usual precautions at the following destination:

      • None

Additional Travel Information:

  • On March 11, President Trump announced a 30-day travel ban barring foreign nationals traveling from Europe to the U.S., with the exception of Britain and Ireland. The order does not prohibit the travel of legal permanent U.S. residents and the immediate family members of U.S. citizens.

  • The Italian government has issued a mandatory quarantine for the entire country that took effect Tuesday, March 10 and will last until at least April 3.

  • Starting Thursday, March 12, Israel is requiring a 14-day quarantine for anyone entering the country. Foreign nationals who are unable to self-quarantine will be refused entry to the country.

Additional Updates

  • Today, President Trump officially declared a national emergency, which opens up access to $50 billion for states and localities. As part of the emergency funding, states are required to set up emergency operation centers, and hospitals are required to activate their emergency preparedness plans.
