Regional news: Complaint issued against Universal City Studios for failing to pay mandated Christmas bonuses in Puerto Rico
Friday, April 29, 2011

The National Labor Relations Board has issued a complaint against Universal City Studios LLC, d/b/a Fast V LLC, for refusing to pay Christmas bonuses to 46 employees who worked on the “Fast and Furious” movie sequel in San Juan, Puerto Rico.

The employees are members of the Alliance of Theatrical State Employees and Moving Picture Technicians, Artists and Allied Crafts, Local 494 (IATSE), which was recognized by Universal as the employee representative during the filming of “Fast and Furious V”.

Puerto Rico law mandates bonuses to all employees who work more than 700 hours in a fiscal year equal to 6% of total wages paid up to $10,000. That works out to $600 per employee in this case, or a total of $27,600 plus interest.

A hearing before an NLRB administrative law judge is scheduled for May 19, 2011, at the Region’s office in San Juan, Puerto Rico.
