Professional Biography

Jennifer Van Wie is a special counsel and an environmental business lawyer with Foley & Lardner LLP, where she advises clients on state and federal environmental regulations and laws concerning air, water, and land pollution, including matters specific to the Clean Air Act, Clean Water Act, Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA), and Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act (CERCLA).Ms. Van Wie has focused her practice exclusively on environmental issues for over 13 years.

Prior to joining Foley, Ms. Van Wie was an Assistant Attorney General with the Environmental Bureau of the Illinois Attorney General’s Office. She has handled significant cases such as brokering a settlement in the People v. Chicago, Central & Pacific Railroad Co., which dealt with air, water, and natural resource damages resulting from the derailment of a train carrying denatured ethanol and resulted in the largest fish kill in Illinois history. She was also instrumental in the People v. City of Markham, the largest discovered open dump in Illinois, in obtaining an injunction to ensure that on-going open dumping ceased and necessary safeguards were implemented to deter future dumping.
