Undead: Corelogic Credco Settles FCRA Suit for $6MM After Falsely Reporting Consumers Were Dead
Thursday, April 11, 2024

Imagine applying for credit and being declined because you’re dead.

You’re standing there. But no credit. Because.. dead.

That apparently happened–or could have happened–to about 27k people who Corelogic Credco allegedly reported as dead to furnishers requesting creditworthiness information.

Corelogic was sued under the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA) and eventually agreed to settle the suit for $5,695,000–those are TCPA numbers!

The ~27,000 consumers settled for $211.00 each and the Court just approved the deal in

Steinberg v. Corelogic, 2024 WL 1546921 Case No.: 3:22-cv-00498-H-SBC (S.D. Cal. April 9, 2024).

Just goes to show TCPA isn’t the ONLY place where there’s big money going to the Plaintiff’s lawyers– Berger Montague PC and Kelly Guzo, PLC made $1.4MM here– and FCRA is another dangerous statute that credit furnishers and CRAs need to have top of mind always– as do those buying and selling credit trigger leads!

Depending on how things develop around trigger leads in the next few months we MAY be covering FCRA at the Law Conference of Champions.
