Womble Whiteboard : The Two Slide Explanation PRI & MRI
What’s the difference between program-related investments and mission-related investments? Our Director of Impact Strategies Mark Newberg offers a simple explanation in just two slides.
PRIs are permissions within the charitable, or program, side of the foundation. PRIs allow foundations to make profitable investments, as long as it meets the charitable purpose of the foundation.
MRIs are permissions within the corpus, or endowment, side of the Foundation. They cannot jeopardize the health of the foundation. However, non-financial factors (“mission alignment”) can be considered.
