Andre Appel has been working as a certified specialist for employment law at the Berlin office of Ogletree Deakins International LLP since January 2020. He advises national and international companies on all aspects of individual and collective labor and employment law as well as the public sector in all matters relating to service and labor law. Additionally, he advises on all questions relating to national and European data protection.
Mr. Appel assists clients in dealing with all daily challenges that involve the entire spectrum of employment law. He offers particular expertise in matters relating to collective bargaining agreements, for example in questions concerning the interpretation and application of regulations from collective bargaining agreements in the public sector (German: TV-L, TVöD) or collective agreements for entire industry sectors in the private sector. In addition, he has successfully pursued a large number of extrajudicial and judicial litigations for employers from the public sector on questions regarding the classification of employees in pay structures in the past – some even in higher instances up to the Federal Labor Court. Mr. Appel is especially experienced in dealing with groups of persons who enjoy special protection under employment law (special protection against dismissal of works and staff councils, trainees, severely disabled persons) in the private and public sector.
Mr. Appel’s range of expertise also covers all aspects of data protection law. As a certified data protection officer (TÜV certificate), he is available to clients on all issues relating to the implementation of and compliance with data protection regulations in accordance with the European General Data Protection Regulation as well as the new data protection provisions regarding employment relationships that are relevant to employers. In this context, he has also been involved in numerous proceedings with data protection supervisory authorities in the past.
Before joining Ogletree Deakins, Mr. Appel worked at a medium-sized, interregional commercial law firm for several years, where he was particularly active in the areas of employment law and industrial property rights.
Mr. Appel is fluent in both English and French.
