Professional Biography

Douglas M. Oldham is of counsel in the Columbus and Chicago offices of Barnes & Thornburg LLP and a member of the firm’s Labor and Employment Law Department.

Mr. Oldham has represented employers in employment discrimination litigation since entering the firm in 2004. He has accumulated significant labor and employment litigation experience throughout that time, including:

  • briefing numerous successful motions for summary judgment and motions to dismiss, as well as copious nondispositive motions, in federal and state court employment lawsuits and appeals;

  • deposing plaintiffs and other fact witnesses in federal and state court employment litigation;

  • examining and cross examining fact witnesses in state court employment litigation;

  • preparing witnesses for testimony at trial in state court employment litigation;

  • advising clients regarding employment discrimination allegations, wage and hour disputes, and compliance with state and federal employment laws;

  • drafting and responding to written discovery in federal and state court employment litigation;

  • drafting numerous position statements to defend clients against equal employment opportunity agency investigations and to obtain dismissals;

  • interviewing hundreds of witnesses to investigate allegations contained in federal and state court employment lawsuits and equal employment opportunity agency investigations;

  • negotiating with plaintiffs and charging parties to settle lawsuits and administrative charges of discrimination in mediation and court-mandated settlement conferences;

  • reviewing employment contracts, separation agreements, and noncompetition agreements for compliance with state laws;
