Professional Biography

Jim W. Ko is an intellectual property attorney and founder of Ko IP & AI Law PLLC, where he advises on the legal and business challenges at the intersection of intellectual property and artificial intelligence (AI). He is also the founder of The AI Rights Project, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit launching in October 2025 to empower students, creators, and citizens to understand and assert their rights in the AI age. Its first major initiative, the Know Your AI Rights eBook, will provide accessible guidance on how AI impacts education, creative work, and civic life. Jim’s career spans two decades in IP, AI, and public-interest law. He has served as Senior Program Attorney for The Sedona Conference, in-house counsel for a global technology company, cofounder, and general counsel for an AI startup, and as both litigator and patent prosecutor. He currently serves on the board of the Arizona College of Trial Advocacy and as a board advisor to the Artificial Intelligence Venture Network.

A former high school biology and civics teacher, Jim is committed to making complex issues clear and actionable. His work combines legal rigor with civic purpose—because in a world increasingly shaped by algorithms, knowing your rights shouldn’t require a law degree.
