Professional Biography

Kishore is the Leader of the Regulatory Practice at the research & strategy driven international law firm, Nishith Desai Associates with offices in Mumbai, Silicon Valley, Bengaluru, Singapore, New Delhi, Munich and New York. As a part of the Funds Formation Practice, Kishore handles all the matters relating to investment by Foreign Portfolio Investors.

He has over two decades of experience in advising clients on Exchange Control and Securities laws. He advises foreign clients on structuring of their investments into India, including assisting in obtaining approvals or filings with the regulators. He also advises leading foreign hedge funds in their structuring of investments and seeking necessary registrations with the SEBI, be it Foreign Portfolio Investor (FPI) or Foreign Venture Capital Investor or Investment Advisor or Stock Broker.

His expertise is often sought after for urgent and complicated regulatory matters relating to FPIs and Foreign Direct Investment. He has also advised and assisted clients on the compounding applications with the Reserve Bank of India, and on the notices / summons received from the Enforcement Directorate.

Kishore has interacted extensively with the SEBI and the RBI, the securities and exchange control regulators. In addition, he regularly advises clients on fund investments, issues related to corporate and regulatory laws. He has made several presentations on inbound and outbound investments. Kishore holds a Bachelor’s degree in law from Mumbai University and is a member of the Bar Council of Maharashtra & Goa.

Kishore has made numerous representations to the Ministry of Finance, Government of India as also to the SEBI / the RBI, seeking reforms in the Exchange Control and Securities laws.
