Mead Misic

Professional Biography

Mead Misic is an associate and intellectual property attorney with Foley & Lardner LLP.  Mead is based in the Boston office where he is a member of the Electronics Practice Group.

Mead counsels clients in strategic patent portfolio development through all stages of procurement and across multiple jurisdictions. He has prepared and prosecuted applications across various technologies, including software, cybersecurity, network application delivery, acceleration and connection management, semiconductor devices and fabrication, robotics, medical devices, digital twins and the internet of things (IoT). He also has experience in LED lighting and thermal management, display technologies, microcontrollers, semiconductor processing equipment and integrated circuits.

Prior to joining Foley, Mead was an IP litigation associate for a law firm in Boston concentrating on complex patent litigation and associated intellectual property and business disputes. In particular, his litigation experience was focused on the technical aspects of patent litigation including infringement and validity strategies, claim construction, expert witness interfacing, discovery and trial preparation in the areas of LED lighting and thermal management, retro-reflective optical and diode laser systems, microcontrollers, and power management circuits. Mead has experience in IP cases before various US federal district courts, patent-based Section 337 investigations before the U.S. International Trade Commission and international arbitration. Mead also has experience in inter partes reviews (IPRs) in front of the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB).

Prior to becoming an attorney, Mead was a registered patent agent and a litigation technology specialist. As a registered patent agent, he assisted in drafting and prosecuting of US and foreign patent applications, as well as managing patent portfolios for large and small clients. As a litigation technology specialist, Mead assisted IP litigation teams with patent infringement and validity strategies, technical expert interfacing and discovery.

Mead also has five years of engineering industry experience as an R&D engineer in research and development of quantum dot light emitting device displays and as a final test engineer in testing and qualifying of semiconductor manufacturing equipment including ion implanters, plasma ashers and photostabilizers. In addition, he has a prior academic research experience in the fields of semiconductors, optical fibers and astronomy.
