An accomplished transactional attorney with over 35 years of experience, Steve Schwartz’s corporate practice encompasses mergers and acquisitions; private offerings of debt and equity; private equity and venture capital financing; and other business and financial transactions for a wide range of clients such as public companies, privately held businesses, entrepreneurs, and emerging companies. His mergers and acquisitions practice encompasses stock and asset acquisitions and divestitures, management and leveraged buyouts, and strategic joint ventures. Steve also serves as outside general counsel to a variety of firm clients.
As a tax lawyer, Steve counsels clients with respect to tax considerations that arise in connection with mergers and acquisitions, compensation and benefit planning, structuring and forming partnerships and limited liability companies, and entity selections.
Steve is a member of the firm’s Management Committee and former Chair of the firm’s Business & Finance practice group. Steve is also a Certified Public Account and the firm's general counsel.
Steve is admitted to practice in Illinois and before the U.S. Tax Court.
Steve is an active member of the Chicago Bar Association (Federal Taxation and Business Law Sections), the American Bar Association (Federal Taxation Section and Business Law Section) and the Illinois State Bar Association. He has been recognized by the Leading Lawyers Network as a top Illinois lawyer in the areas of closely and privately held business law, mergers and acquisitions, corporate finance and tax law (2003-2016). Steve was also designated an Illinois Super Lawyer (2005-2007), an honor given to the top 5% of attorneys in the state.
