Professional Biography

Teal Trujillo focuses her practice on employee benefits and executive compensation matters for public and private companies. She regularly leads due diligence and advises on liability related to retirement plans, health and welfare plans and executive compensation in stock purchase and asset purchase transactions.

A specialist on matters related to tax-qualified pension plans, health and welfare plans and deferred compensation arrangements, Teal also has experience handling correction and administrative matters before the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) and the Department of Labor (DOL). She advises plan sponsors in a wide range of industries, from Fortune 500 companies to health service providers and tax-exempt organizations.

Teal frequently writes on benefits matters, including retirement changes under the Setting Every Community Up for Retirement Enhancement Act of 2019 (the “SECURE Act”) and the Bipartisan American Miners Act of 2019 (the “Miners Act”) to tax-qualified retirement plans and individual retirement arrangements (“IRA”), retirement plan standards for environmental, social, and corporate governance (“ESG”) investing, IRS guidance on missing participants and escheatment to state unclaimed property funds and actuarial equivalence class action litigation.

While in law school, Teal was the executive articles editor of the Notre Dame Journal of Legislation. She previously served as a judicial extern to the Hon. Douglas L. Rayes of the US District Court for the District of Arizona.
