Vietnam

Vietnam is the easternmost country in the Indochina Peninsula, and as of 2016, has an estimated population of approximately 95 million inhabitants. It’s Asia’s ninth most populous, and the 15th most populous country in the world. Since the 1976 reunification of north and south Vietnam, the capital city has been  Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City has the most people.

The Vietnam War took place between 1965 to 1973. It consisted of  heavy intervention by the United States, with Northern Vietnam eventually claiming victory in 1975.The country remained under Communist government rule following the war, and by 2000, the country had established diplomatic relations with all nations. The country has had one of the best economies in the world since this period, and joined the World Trade Organization in 2007. Vietnam also belongs to the Organisation Internationale de la Francophonie.

The government of Vietnam consists of a National Assembly which elects the executive ministers.  The National Assembly is unicameral, and comprised of 498 members. The  President of Vietnam is elected, serving as commander in chief and head of the state. The Prime Minister serves as head of the government. Vietnam is broken into 58 provinces, and 5 administrative municipalities.

The judiciary’s highest court is the Supreme People's Court of Vietnam, headed by the Chief Justice. Provincial municipal courts, and numerous local courts fall below the Supreme Court. Military courts are courts of special jurisdictions. They hear cases revolving around national security. The death penalty is still in place for many offenses in the country.

The National Law Review covers the latest political, social, and legal news from the country of Vietnam. Visa, retrogression, immigration news, and anti-dumping, countervailing duties, are among the topics covered online.
