Designation of Honduras for TPS Terminated
Wednesday, June 6, 2018

As we previously reported, in January 2018 the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) automatically extended Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for nationals of Honduras for six months through an automatic extension, given that DHS did not make a decision regarding Honduras’s designation which was set to expire.  At the time, Honduras’s TPS designation was automatically extended to July 5, 2018, and the employment authorization document (EAD) cards were automatically extended for 180 days, until July 4, 2018.].

In June 2018, after reviewing the country conditions, DHS determined that the designation for Honduras be terminated, effective Jan. 5, 2020. Those who wish to maintain their TPS and the associated EAD must re-register for TPS. The 60-day re-registration period runs from June 5, 2018, until August 6, 2020. It is important that re-registration occurs during this period. EADs issued will have an expiration date of Jan. 5, 2020, and those who do not received EADs prior to July 5, 2018, will have their EADs automatically extended for 180 days, through Jan. 1, 2019.
