Update: Latin America Renewable Energy – Calls for Public Bids

This GT Alert provides an update to our August 2019 alert, Latin America Renewable Energy: Calls for Public Bids.

Colombia

On Oct. 22, 2019, the Ministry of Mines and Energy of Colombia awarded 8 projects (5 wind and 3 solar). As a result of these awards, 7 generators and 33 traders were assigned. These projects will yield 1,298 megawatts of installed capacity.

México

Regarding the first private bidding process for long-term electricity announced by companies Bravos Energía and Aklara, there are currently 71 interested companies (33 sellers and 38 purchasers). The results of the bidding process will be announced on Jan. 30, 2020. The deadline for the execution of the contracts will be March 31, 2020.

The company Vitol announced a private process for the supply of energy, power, clean energy certificates, and power congestion designed for participants of the national electricity industry. The procedure will be carried out through the website www.mexicoelectrico.com. It is important to note that the guidelines for the procedure are not available to the public.

Argentina

Concerning the bidding process for joint purchases of renewable energy in the Renewable Energy Term Market (Mercado a Término de Energías Renovables, “MATER”) with the government of Argentina, it was announced that the fourth call for bids related to the last quarter of 2019 will be launched on Dec. 31, 2019.

Ecuador

Regarding the call for bids related to the construction and operation of a photovoltaic project known as “El Aromo” and a wind power project known as “Villonaco II and III”, the results of the prequalification procedure were announced on Nov. 14, 2019.

Chile

Regarding the bidding process related to electricity generation projects from renewable sources, the National Energy Commission of Chile extended the deadline for the submission of proposals to May 27, 2020. The award date will be June 18, 2020.

Dominican Republic

Oscar de la Maza, Director of the Division of Renewable Energy in the Ministry of Energy and Mining of the Dominican Republic, informed that a bidding process for the development of wind and solar farms is expected to be announced in 2020.
