Professional Biography

Sarah E. Nesbitt joined Katz Banks Kumin as an associate in September 2023.

Prior to joining the firm, Ms. Nesbitt worked as an Employment Litigation Fellow and then an Associate at another plaintiff-side employment law firm in Washington, D.C., where she represented employees in the full spectrum of discrimination and retaliation cases. She also established a practice representing student survivors of sexual violence navigating administrative and institutional investigations.

Ms. Nesbitt graduated Phi Beta Kappa and as a Gephardt Institute Civic Scholar from Washington University in St. Louis with a B.A. in Women, Gender & Sexuality Studies and cum laude with a J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center. While in law school, Ms. Nesbitt was the president of Advocates Against Sexual Violence and served on the executive board for If When How: Lawyering for Reproductive Justice. In her third year, she worked as a student attorney in Georgetown’s Civil Rights Clinic, representing incarcerated persons, employees facing discrimination, and survivors of sexual assault who were sued for speaking out.

Ms. Nesbitt also worked for Know Your IX as a policy organizer and courts project fellow, performing legislative advocacy and training student organizers on their right to an education free from gender violence. Upon graduating from Georgetown Law, Ms. Nesbitt received the National Association of Women Lawyers’ Outstanding Law Student Award.

Prior to law school, Ms. Nesbitt worked at the Texas state domestic violence coalition as a policy coordinator, in which capacity she trained mediators in trauma-informed practice, engaged in legislative advocacy, and managed a network of legal advocates statewide. She also volunteered with Jane’s Due Process in her free time, assisting minors navigating judicial bypass process in Texas.

Ms. Nesbitt is admitted to the bar in the District of Columbia.
