Senate Legislative Activity

The Senate will meet on Monday, June 15, at 2:00pm. Following any Leader remarks, the Senate will be in a period of morning business for one hour, with Senators permitted to speak for up to 10 minutes each. Following morning business, the Senate will resume consideration of H.R.1735, the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2016.  Last Thursday, prior to adjourning for the week, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KU) filed cloture on Substitute Amendment #1463 by Senator John McCain (R-AZ) and the underlying bill, H.R.1735.  The filing deadline for all first degree amendments to both H.R.1735 and Senator McCain’s substitute amendment is today at 4:00pm. If cloture is invoked, amendments must be germane and timely filed to be considered in order post-cloture.

Additionally, at 5:00pm, the Senate will enter Executive Session to consider Executive Calendar #131, Matthew McGuire, to be US Executive Director of the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development, and Executive Calendar #132, Gentry Smith, to be Director of the Office of Foreign Missions. There will be 30 minutes for debate equally divided prior to a 5:30pm roll call vote on the nominations.

House Legislative Activity

On Monday, June 15, the House will meet at 12:00pm for morning hour and at 2:00pm for legislative business, with votes postponed until 6:30pm. The following legislation will be considered under suspension of the rules:

1. H.R. 891 – To designate the facility of the United States Postal Service located at 141 Paloma Drive in Floresville, Texas, as the “Floresville Veterans Post Office Building”;

2. H.R. 1326 – To designate the facility of the United States Postal Service located at 2000 Mulford Road in Mulberry, Florida, as the “Sergeant First Class Daniel M. Ferguson Post Office”;

3. H.R. 1350 – To designate the facility of the United States Postal Service located at 442 East 167th Street in Bronx, New York, as the “Herman Badillo Post Office Building”;

4. H.R. 728 – To designate the facility of the United States Postal Service located at 7050 Highway BB in Cedar Hill, Missouri, as the “Sergeant First Class William B. Woods, Jr. Post Office”;

5. H.R. 2131 – To designate the Federal building and United States courthouse located at 83 Meeting Street in Charleston, South Carolina, as the “J. Waties Waring Judicial Center”;

6. H.R. 2559 – To designate the “PFC Milton A. Lee Medal of Honor Memorial Highway” in the State of Texas; and

7. H. Res. 233 – Expressing the sense of the House of Representatives that Iran should immediately release the three United States citizens that it holds, as well as provide all known information on any United States citizens that have disappeared within its borders

On Tuesday, June 16, the House will meet at 10:00am for morning hour and at 12:00pm for legislative business to consider H.R. 2596 – Intelligence Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2016, Rules Committee Print (Subject to a Rule).

On Wednesday, June 17, the House will meet at 10:00am for morning hour and at 12:00pm for legislative business.  On Thursday, June 18, the House will meet at 9:00am for legislative business, with last votes expected by 3:00pm.  The following legislation will be considered under suspension of the rules:

1. H.R. 2505 – Medicare Advantage Coverage Transparency Act of 2015, as amended;

2. H.R. 2507 – Increasing Regulatory Fairness Act of 2015, as amended;

3. H.R. 2582 – Seniors’ Health Care Plan Protection Act of 2015, as amended; and

4. H.R. 2570 – Strengthening Medicare Advantage through Innovation and Transparency for Seniors Act of 2015, as amended

The House will also consider H.R. 160 – Protect Medical Innovation Act of 2015 (Subject to a Rule) and H.R. 1190 – Protecting Seniors’ Access to Medicare Act of 2015 (Subject to a Rule).

Additionally, the House may consider H. Con. Res. 55 – Directing the President, pursuant to section 5(c) of the War Powers Resolution, to remove United States Armed Forces deployed to Iraq or Syria on or after August 7, 2014, other than Armed Forces required to protect United States diplomatic facilities and personnel, from Iraq and Syria, as well as legislation related to trade.

On Friday, June 19, no votes are expected in the House.
