Right To Work Efforts: Has the Momentum Stalled?
Thursday, August 8, 2013

As we previously reported, following the successful passage of Right to Work legislation in Indiana and then Michigan, there was interest in how much momentum the movement for similar legislation in the states has.  This was particularly true after Michigan, the home and traditional bastion of organized labor, became a right to work state.

It appears, however, that such efforts have petered out. Recently, the Missouri legislature passed a version of right to work legislation dubbed “paycheck protection” which was applicable for public employees, but the Governor vetoed it.  And, in Ohio’s most recent legislative session, the attempt to pass right to work legislation failed.  Despite the setback in Ohio, supporters continue to say they will try again. At the same time, unions remain vigilant especially after the Michigan experience which by all accounts caught them off-guard.
